General Description
Port Moody is the smallest of the Tri-Cities with a population of about 33,000. It straddles on both sides of the Burrard Inlet bounded by Burnaby to the west and Coquitlam to the south and east. There are many nature trails, greenbelts, and interconnecting ravines, (especially up Heritage Mountain and Heritage Woods) within the City’s confines; the Port Moody Inlet Trail, winds in a U-shape, around the Burrard Inlet from Rocky Point to the Old Orchard on Murray Street on the north shore, is a popular nature reserve and jogging trail. The City of Port Moody offers diverse housing, some employment opportunities, and many recreational opportunities. Growth is principally on the North Shore, a designated environmentally-sensitive area to protected salmon bearing streams, greenbelts and west coast vegetation.
Housing & Real Estate
The median price for a detached home in 2010 was +/- $700K for a 25 – 30 yr home on a large lot (7,000 s.f. or more). However in Heritage Mountain, Heritage Woods, where the newer and large contemporary homes are ranging from $750 – $950K, depending on size ,location and view. The April Road subdivision offers some of the most gorgeous sunsets and view of the Burrard inlet. While for a Whistler lifestyle check out the Newport Village with its view condos and hi-rises offering a lifestyle of trendy markets, cafes, restaurants and boutiques within the complex. The village of Belcarra and Anmore, which are separate municipalities of their own, adjoins Port Moody and offer a rustic lifestyle on large properties (1/2 acre to over 1 acre). Although some of the more affluent are building homes in these exclusive communities from $800k to over a $2 million; what with the joys of a simple life in the country.
Recreation
Port Moody is well known for preserving its nature and green space. There are many hiking trails within the city, the most popular being the Inlet Trail. This runs from Rocky Point, on the waterfront with the pier and fabulous view of the Burrard Inlet, and continues along the Inlet around and behind Ioco Road section, pass Newport Village and Port Moody Recreation Centre, to the Old Orchard Park. Biking, jogging or walking there will find you in good company. It is also a superb site for nature photography as this protected marshland is natures habitat, especially at the crack of dawn. Explore the many trails up the Heritage Mountain & Heritage Woods neighbourhood; it has much to offer. In the summer time, White pine beach at Sasamat Lake, Belcarra and Buntzen Lake in Anmore are popular and close by destinations.
